Japan to appoint its first female top prosecutor

Japan's Cabinet decided on Friday to appoint the country's first female top prosecutor. Unemoto Naomi will assume the post of prosecutor general on 9th July, replacing Kai Yukio. She is currently the head of the Tokyo High Prosecutors Office and the first woman to hold the post.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi Yoshimasa said that the personnel affairs of civil servants are decided by considering their personality, expertise and experience. The Cabinet has concluded that Unemoto is well-suited for the role of prosecutor general.
