Japan announces statement on foreign exchange policy with US

Japan said it has compiled a joint statement on foreign exchange policy with the United States. It follows the signing of a document on US tariffs by the two countries. Japanese Finance Minister Kato Katsunobu announced on Friday that he and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent reaffirmed that exchange rates should be determined by markets.

They also confirmed that excess volatility and disorderly movements can have a negative impact on economic and financial stability.
