Japan and EU announce new security and defence pact

Japan and the European Union announced a new security and defense partnership in Tokyo. EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell called it a historic and timely move.

Josep Borrell, EU Foreign Policy Chief said "I am extremely pleased to be here with Minister Iwaya to announce the conclusion of this security and defence partnership between the European Union and Japan. It is the first agreement of this nature that we conclude with the Indo-Pacific countries, and it's so important because we are fully aware that Indo-Pacific will be the theatre where the history of mankind will be written in this century."

The EU and Japan also plan to discuss the development of their defense initiatives, including the exchange of information related to the defense industry.
