The Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority Chairman Yamanaka Shinsuke had criticized Chubu Electric Power for alleged falsification of earthquake data. He called the incident extremely grave and serious. He said at a meeting in Tokyo on Wednesday that this is a case of fabricated inspection data that directly relates to safety.

The incident involves two reactors at the Hamaoka nuclear power plant in Shizuoka Prefecture. The regulator said at the meeting that it was tipped off about the alleged misconduct last February. The plant operator later reported the case in December. The body plans to decide how to deal with the incident at its regular meeting next Wednesday.
