Japan’s new Prime Minister addressed the nation for the first time Tuesday night. Takaichi Sanae highlighted her priorities including the economy and working with the opposition.
Takaichi said that she will try to form a majority in the Diet to stabilize the political situation. And she stressed, so long as they share her beliefs, she will continue calling on the opposition parties to cooperate. As for the economy, Takaichi vowed to tackle rising prices. That includes quickly abolishing the provisional gasoline tax rate.
She also stressed she will listen to the opposition and raise the tax-free income threshold, to leave more money in peoples’ pockets. She plans to have the public and private sectors collaborate, to invest in economic, food and energy security.
