Jakarta of Indonesia has officially secured the second spot as the safest city in Southeast Asia, according to the latest 2026 Global Residence Index. As the second safest city in Southeast Asia, Jakarta now surpasses major regional hubs including Bangkok, Manila, Kuala Lumpur, and Hanoi.

Singapore remains in the top position, but Jakarta’s rise marks a significant milestone for the metropolis. The governor stated that the ranking was based on an objective international evaluation rather than government lobbying. The index analyzes several critical factors, including low rates of homicide and abduction, minimal political risk, and strong resilience against natural disasters.
