Italy PM says EU should talk to Russia over Ukraine

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said Friday the European Union should resume high-level dialogue with Russia as Brussels seeks to end the Ukraine conflict, urging the appointment of a special envoy.

She said she agreed with French President Emmanuel Macron, who said in December that it would be "useful" for Europe to re-engage with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the conflict in Ukraine. Meloni said it was difficult to know who on the EU side would be involved in the talks.
