Israeli Prime Minster Naftali Bennett on Sunday announced the expansion of the country's second booster campaign to people over the age of 60, as it faces a surge of COVID-19 cases. Last week, Israel approved the booster for a limited population of people with underlying illnesses.

Speaking on national TV, Bennett said that giving older Israelis an additional booster shot -- their fourth dose in total -- will provide a "new layer" of protection. Earlier Sunday, Bennett warned that Israel will soon see tens of thousands of cases a day as the omicron variant continues to spread.
