Ishiba met Son, Altman, to confirm cooperation with Trump in developing AI

Japan's Prime Minister Ishiba is to fly to Washington for his first summit in person with Trump on Friday. Ishiba has expressed readiness to confirm a bilateral commitment to developing artificial intelligence with US President Donald Trump.

He made the comment during his talks with Japan's SoftBank Group Chairman and CEO Son Masayoshi and US-based OpenAI CEO Sam Altman at the Prime Minister's Office in Tokyo on Monday. Son and Altman jointly met reporters with Trump recently at the White House, where they announced their plan to make massive investments to build AI infrastructure in the United States.

Ishiba said that his administration wants to fundamentally change the foundations of Japan, and he believes AI technology will play a significant role. He added that he wants to see Japan and the US deepen their cooperation in this field so the world becomes more peaceful, prosperous and safe.
