Japan's Diet has elected Ishiba Shigeru as the country's prime minister following a runoff vote in the Lower House against the main opposition leader. Ishiba, who leads the main ruling Liberal Democratic Party, was also confirmed by the Upper House earlier on Monday. He's now expected to name his Cabinet and receive a ceremonial endorsement from Japan's Emperor.
