For sufficient supply of irrigation water to summer paddy fields in Thanatpin Township of Bago Region, SunPi Sluice Gate is under construction in the township.

Township Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department is implementing the project since early December in 2020.

Staff Officer, Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department, Kyaw Swar Ni Win said “This Sluice Gate is situated on SunPi Creek. The facility has been built at the place which was blocked by an earthen embankment since 2006. During the recent years, it faced difficulties to supply water to the summer paddy fields. So, with the request of farmers, the Hluttaw representative made field trip and asked for the project.”

The construction of the Sluice Gate is implemented by the budget allotment of Regional Government for 2020-2021 fiscal year.

Staff Officer, Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department, Kyaw Swar Ni Win said “This project has been undertaken by the allotted budget of Bago Region Government. This facility has 6 sluice gates, each of which is 6 ft wide. It will reduce the annual cost for the previous earthen embankment and can supply irrigation water to the farmers in time.”

Upon completion, it could help provide sufficient water supply to 5,000 acres summer paddy fields.
