




On the afternoon of August 17th, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr. Kan Zaw attended the GMS Project Roadshow and the Lincang-Mekong Fruit Festival as part of the 2023 GMS Economic Corridor Governors Forum at the Yunnan Haigeng Convention Center.
On the 18th, the Union Minister participated in the GMS Projects Roadshow and the Lincang Border Economic Cooperation Zone, which was held as the second-day session of the forum.
In his opening speech, the Union Minister mentioned that there are currently a total of 597 Chinese investment businesses in Myanmar, with a combined value of over 21 billion US dollars, representing 23.5% of the total foreign investments.
The majority of these investments have been directed towards the power sector, a crucial component for the country's development. He emphasized the government's commitment to the development of the power sector, which in turn enhances the investment environment.
Furthermore, with the completion of the Kun Lon Bridge, the export of agriculture and livestock products is anticipated, fostering border trade and investment. The establishment of the International Aquatic Products Processing Industrial Park in the Lincang economic zone is expected to facilitate border trade between the two nations.
The Union Minister extended an invitation for investments in various sectors, including electric vehicles, agriculture, bio-medicine, aquatic animals, cold chain logistics, cultural exchange, and the tourism sector.
During the afternoon session, speeches were delivered by the Secretary of the Committee of Dehong Autonomous Prefecture and officials. This was followed by greetings from the Vice Chairman of the Yunnan Provincial Private Entrepreneurs Association and explanations regarding the prospects of six major projects to be implemented in the Dehong area.
These projects encompass Yunnan's Global Plant and Animal Germplasm Resources Introduction and Transfer Base, Wholesale Trading Center of Agricultural Products (Processing Base for Imported Agricultural and Sideline Products), Intelligent Logistics Park, Ruili National Backbone Cold-Chain Logistics Base (Cold-Chain Logistics Industrial Park), Michu Industrial Investment Management, and the Ruili Beef Cattle Industry Base.
