








The celebration of the International Women’s Day was held at the Myanmar International Convention Center II (MICC-2) in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday, with the video message, sent by Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
During the ceremony, Chairperson of the Myanmar National Committee for Women’s Affairs (MNCWA) and Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Thet Thet Khine stressed about the women’s development, the promotion activities for development of women’s rights and prevention of violence against for women in various ways.
Afterwards, the secretary of MNCWA and the Director General of the Social Welfare Department read out the UN Secretary-General’s message on International Women’s Day 2023.
Dr. San San Aye, Director General, Social Welfare Department said "This year’s theme is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality,” and it highlights the role of innovative technology in promoting gender equality and meeting the health and developmental needs of women and girls. In previous year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the celebration was held in our department with invited people. The Prime Minister delivers a video message to us every year. "
The honorary patrons of Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation (MWAF) Daw Khin Thet Htay and Daw Than Than Nwe later presented the excellence in women’s sector awards to the Chairpersons and Secretaries of MWAF, Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Myanmar Women and Children Development Foundation and Myanmar Women’s Sports Federation.
Vice Chairman of MNCWA and Deputy Minister U Soe Kyi presented a guidebook for the management of temporary shelters that can provide security for women victims of violence, set by the Department of Social Welfare, to the Chairperson and Secretary of the Nay Pyi Taw Women’s Affairs Federation.
Dr. San San Aye, Director General, Social Welfare Department said "We presented awards to the persons who performed their best for Myanmar Women’s development. Also national plan has been set up for the development of women’s sector. The 1st phase for 2013-2022 has been completed. The 2nd phase is being set up and it is called National Strategic Plan for Advanced of Women."
The Honorary Patrons, wife of SAC Secretary, member of SAC and their wives later viewed the displays of booths in commemoration of the International Women’s Day.
