International Ecological Congress: MoNREC Union Minister attended the roundtable discussion

The 10th Nevsky International Ecological Congress is hosted by the Russian Federation via Hybrid System from 25th to 26th of May and the Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi attended the roundtable discussion under the topic “Water is the main resource of the future” in the evening on 25th May together with the ministers, deputy ministers, mayors and representatives from 21 countries and organizations.

At the meeting, the Union Minister discussed that Myanmar is a country enriched with water resource and possessed 12 percent of Asia’s fresh water and 16% of ASEAN. At the present days, each country is facing with the environmental damages and water problems due to the climate change, to tackle those challenges, National level Water Resource Committee and National Level Environmental Conservation Committee have been formed and the national level water policy, national environmental policy and the national climate change policy are setting and implementing the environmental conservation and water resources management. In the implementation of comprehensive warer resource management process of the country, the cooperation with the international community will be accelerated.

The representatives attended from each country discussed the water resource management which is the basic of economy and logistics, improvement of water quality and management on purifying, coastal region tourism, financial support related to the utilization of water resources and the promotion of knowledge on the water ecosystem.
