The United Nations has chosen May 29 as the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers to recognise the force’s significant contributions to world peace and security.

The United Nations held a ceremony to celebrate the 75th anniversary and honour the contributions and sacrifices of the "blue beret" forces by laying wreaths and awarding the Dag Hammarskjold medal in recognition of soldiers' sacrifices.

After 75 years, more than 4,200 peacekeepers have fallen under the UN flag. And in many countries, they are also involved in helping people rebuild their lives and better protect their rights and interests after wars.
