International Day of PwDs: Yangon Region CM delivered the opening speech

The Yangon Region Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities held the 2025 “International Day of Persons with Disabilities” ceremony on the afternoon of 3 December at the Mingalar Hall of the Yangon Region Government Office. Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein attended the event and delivered the opening remarks.

Afterward, the Chief Minister U Soe Thein and his wife presented honorary cash awards to Maung Ye Lay and Ma Thu Wala Oo, who won first prizes at the 9th Asia Children’s Art Festival. They also presented honorary cash awards to responsible officials from special education schools for persons with disabilities in Yangon Region.

Next, a video message sent by the United Nations and a commemorative video clip for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities were shown.

This was followed by children from schools for persons with disabilities performing songs and dances.

After that, Yangon Region ministers and their spouses presented honorary cash awards to the performers.

Later, the Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein and officials observed the exhibition booths and shops on display, it’s learnt.
