






To raise awareness and understanding of disability-related issues and to encourage collective support for the dignity, human rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities, a ceremony marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities was held at 9:00 AM on December 3 at the Taunggyi City Hall.
At the ceremony, Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung stated that the United Nations designated December 3 as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and that it has been observed annually worldwide under UN leadership. He added that Myanmar has been holding commemorative events since 1994 without interruption, making this year the 32nd observance. He also noted that the UN’s theme for the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities is “Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress.”
Following this, a video clip of the message from the UN Secretary-General was shown. Children with disabilities from the Taunggyi Jesus Disabled and Orphanage Home performed songs and dances, which were warmly enjoyed and supported by the Chief Minister and the attendees.
The Chief Minister then presented 1 million kyats as an honorarium to the performing children and donated 3 million kyats to the Taunggyi Jesus Disabled and Orphanage Home, which were received by responsible officials. Afterwards, winners of the Special Olympics Myanmar competitions commemorating the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities were honored with awards presented by the Patron of the Shan State Maternal and Child Care Supervisory Committee, the wife of the Chief Minister, and other officials.
Subsequently, the Chief Minister, the Patron of the Shan State Maternal and Child Care Supervisory Committee, the wife of the Chief Minister, state ministers, and officials distributed nutritious snacks to the children with disabilities attending the ceremony and warmly greeted the attendees, it’s reported.
