International Day of Forests: Commemorative Ceremony held in Taunggyi

Forest Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation organized a commemorative ceremony to mark the International Day of Forests at the City Hall of Taunggyi Township on March 21st.

In his remarks, Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung noted that March 21st was designated as the International Day of Forests in 2012 to acknowledge forest preservation and to understand the vital role of various type of forest diversity around the world.

Plans have been made for ensuring food sufficiency along with fair climatic condition under favourable natural environment in the country under the guidance of the Head of State, in collaboration with local residents. As parts of the initiative, efforts are being made for establishment of forest plantations along the roads, as well as the rivers, creeks and hilly areas. In addition, firewood plantations have been established extendedly by drafting the plan.

The Chief Minister called for collaborative efforts of all concerned departments and local community for actively participation in forest conservation processes, understanding its benefits. The ceremony also includes the screening of a video clip, commemorating the International Day of Forests and display of posters.
