The 101st Anniversary of the International Day of Cooperatives was held at the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development in Nay Pyi Taw on Saturday.

Union Minister U Hla Moe attended the ceremony and made a speech, stating that the Cooperative Department is carrying out cooperative work by implementing nine action plans for the socio-economic development of people and creating job opportunities.

To date, over 38,000 Cooperative Associations have been established. With the guidance of the Government, the Ministry is striving for increased incomes for rural people through agriculture, livestock breeding, and manageable industries.

This year's theme for the International Day of Cooperatives is "Cooperatives: Partners for Accelerated Sustainable Development." The Union Minister urged everyone to cooperate in accelerating the sustainable development of cooperative work while adhering to its principles.

The ceremony continued with the Chairman of the Central Cooperative Society giving a word of honor and the reading of a message sent by the International Cooperative Alliance. The attendees later enjoyed a commemorative song and a documentary video clip showcasing the work undertaken by cooperative associations.

The Union Minister later presented 36 awards for cooperative development work and visited the commemorative booths.
