Department of Environmental Conservation under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation marked the 2023 International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies in Nay Pyi Taw.

In this ceremony, Union Minister U Khin Maung Yi highlighted that the theme for this year’s International Clean Air Day celebration is “Together for Clean Air” To increase cooperation at the international level; It is being held with the purpose of increasing air quality measures and solutions and sharing responsibilities according to roles in order to overcome air pollution.

Access to clean air is important for human health and daily life; Air pollution is a serious threat to human health worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, about 6.7 million people die each year due to air pollution, and about 24 million people are exposed to the dangers of indoor air pollution.

Since air pollution is transboundary in nature, the regional level deals with the problem of transboundary air pollution that often occurs between neighbouring countries.

National and international cooperation should be increased. To reduce Transboundary Haze Pollution Problems, Myanmar has signed the ASEAN Agreement on Cross-Border Smog Pollution Control and is cooperating internationally.

The Union Minister called for efforts to pass on a green environment and good ecological systems. And, a video was screened commemorating the 2023 International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies. There, the Union Minister also viewed the display of commemorative posters.
