International Conference: Human rights protection in health care

The 8thInternational Scientific and Practical Conference was held in Moscow, the Russian Federation on 10 October, with the theme “Topical Issues of Human Rights Protection in Health Care”.

Myanmar National Human Rights Commission Chairman U Paw Lwin Sein and Commission members joined the conference via video conferencing. The conference discussed country-specific measures and developments related to the protection of human rights in the health sector.

In his discussion, the Commission Chairman emphasized that the right to healthcare is a fundamental human right, asserting that health care is not a special privilege but a basic right that belongs to everyone.

He added that Myanmar has ratified the Human Rights Declaration, and also adopted the International Covenant on Economic Social and Cultural Rights. He stressed that efforts are being made for universal coverage of health care services, along with the enactment of laws that emphasize health rights.
