Intangible Cultural Heritages: Meeting of National Intangible Cultural Heritages committee held

The fourth meeting of Myanmar National Intangible Cultural Heritages Preservation and Promotion Committee was held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture in the morning on Wednesday with the presence of Committee Chairman Union Minister U Ko Ko.

In his remark, the Union Minister U Ko Ko said the country is a home of multi ethnicities and the intangible cultural heritages of the national brethren from different regions across the country were rich since the thousands of year ago. The intangible cultural heritages included the language, oral traditions and expressions, performing arts; Social practices, rituals and festive events, knowledge and practices concerning nature and the universe, traditional craftsmanship.

Myanmar signed the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage on 7th of May, 2014 to safeguard the intangible cultural heritages, treasure, promote and support and cooperate with the International organizations and UNESCO.

The private alphabets, writings, language, culture, traditions and customs preserved by the national races for over thousands of year are needed to preserve with the sense of obligation. As Thingyan water festival is constituted with the religion, belief, performing arts, social practices, rituals and festive events, knowledge and practices concerning nature and the universe, it’s a festival of great significance.

The Regions and States Governments which are the members of National Intangible Cultural Heritage Preservation and Promotion Committee are urged to help by keeping record the organizing traditional Maha Thingyan water festival this year.Next, the Deputy Minister Daw Nu Mya Zan clarified regarding with organizing fourth meeting of the committee.

Director General of Archeological Research and National Museum reported the status of implementing national intangible cultural heritages and the invited deputy ministers, permanent secretaries, regions and states ministers, departmental officials, committee members discussed the related sectors on the national intangible cultural heritages preservation and promotion.After giving a speech of conclusion by the Committee Chairman Union Minister U Ko Ko, the meeting was concluded.
