Inspection Trip: MNHRC inspects Aung Chan Thar Labour Camp

On January 23, the inspection team, led by member of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission U Tin Aung, conducted an inspection of the Aung Chan Thar Labour Camp in Kyauktan Township, Yangon Region, in accordance with Sections 43 and 44 of the Commission Law.
The inspection team conducted a thorough examination of the Aung Chan Thar Labour Camp in accordance with the Commission Law and established procedures. The primary focus of the inspection was to assess whether the detainees in the camp were afforded their fundamental rights, including access to adequate food supply and healthcare services, as well as ensuring the provision of sufficient purified water.
Additionally, the team scrutinized the conditions to ensure that prisoners received their personal belongings and items sent by their families. The inspection also aimed to identify any instances of human rights violations, torture, or discrimination within the workplace environment of the labour camp.
The inspection team further examined various facilities within the labour camp, including the prisoners' dormitories, clinic, library, kitchen, food store, water purifier, areas designated for family visits, and the sanitation system.
Additionally, the MNHRC donated 50 books for the prisoners, and the officer in charge of the labour camp received the donated books. The findings and recommendations of the inspection team will be sent to the relevant authorities for taking necessary actions.
