






The ancient lakes in Bagan archaeological zone are under renovation. On Monday, Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Tin Oo Lwin, Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung inspected the renovation works of ancient lakes.
The renovation works included Mya Lake which had been used by the ancient monarchs and people over 900 years ago as well as Zayaweri Lake, Mingala Lake (3), Yaytaw Muni Lake, Ywa Haunggyi Lake, Hsutaung Pyae Lake and Ko Mauk Lake.
Officials reported on progress of renovation works. The Union Ministers also inspected the dredging of silt along the eastern moat of Old Bagan Town. They also visited Ananda Pagoda and oversaw the works of gold foiling at two Buddha Images in western and eastern part of the pagoda cave and polishing work for stair ways.
At Bagan Archaeological Museum, the Union Ministers heard reports on renovation works without damaging the ancient heritage in cooperation with the local and international experts. They also discussed for surveying the renovation of more ancient lakes and cultivation of native species trees.
Out of 106 ancient lakes in Bagan Archaeological Zone, 91 lakes have been renovated through two phases with 46 lakes in first phase and 45 in the second phase. As of April 29th, 13 ancient lakes have completed renovation as per priorities with another 8 lakes under renovation.
