Inspection Tour: MONREC UM met with the staff in Lahe Township

Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi visited the Forest Department and the Environmental Conservation Department offices in Lahe Township of Naga Self-Administered Zone, in Sagaing Region on January 14 and met with the staff.

During the meeting, the Union Minister mentioned that the Naga Self-Administered Zone comprises the towns of Lahae, Nanyun, and Leyshee Townships. He noted that 56.01% of the region is covered by forests. He emphasized the need for widespread public education campaigns to promote forest conservation, prevent illegal logging, and reduce shifting cultivation practices.

The Union Minister also highlighted the importance of cooperation between relevant departments and local communities to prevent seasonal forest fires and smoke pollution. Furthermore, he called for efforts to prevent illegal logging and the transport of forest products, and stressed the need to ensure the long-term sustainability of the forest ecosystems and biodiversity.

After that, the Union Minister addressed the concerns raised by the staff and assured them that necessary actions would be taken to address the issues.
