Inspection Tour: MoNREC UM held meeting on controlling air pollution

Union Minister for Natural Resources an Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi together with the Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung and State Ministers, departmental officials attended a meeting on Transboundary Haze Pollution Control and Wild Fire Prevention held at the Township Hall of Kengtung Township in Shan State (East) in the morning on 12th March.

Speaking at the meeting, the Union Minister said that the major causes of burning resulted in Haze and Air pollution are the burning for shifting farms, reckless use of fire in hunting, straw stubble burning, burning for soil preparation and waste burning. It’s important to collaborate among the departments and local people for the prevention and controlling wild fire to prevent Fire Hotspot resulted in air pollution caused the diseases in respiratory system, heart and lung.

Next, the Director General of the Department of Environmental Conservation clarified the dangers of air pollution on the health of human being, the causes of fire in Myanmar, quantity of fire breakings, status of transboundary haze pollution and the implementation for the controlling measures.

Next, the Chief Minister instructed to implement upland agriculture instead of shifting cultivation, carry out on ground educating measure extensively to the local residents, to recycle the agricultural wastes as natural fertilizer, biofuel and bio gas and the collaboration of the relevant departments with the local residents to eradicate burning for shifting cultivation and for the development of agriculture and livestock breeding.

Then, the attendees discussed the relevant sectors and the Union Minister and Chief Minister gave supplemented discussion and coordinated requirements. In the afternoon, the Union Minister and Chief Minister visited Kyaing Faung Nursery Garden in Kengtung Township, heard the reports of the officials and gave necessary instructions.

Next, the Union Minister met with the personnel at the State Forest Department Office in Kengtung Township, gave necessary instructions regarding the matters on forest, mining, environmental conservation and the personnel Administration, fulfilled the needs reported by the personnel. The Union Minister also inspected the offices of departments and enterprises under the Ministry and gave necessary instruction.
