Inspection Tour: Livestock development and ensuring food sufficiency

Efforts are being undertaken for development of livestock sector and ensuring food sufficiency in Yangon region.

On 25th January, Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Aung Gyi visited the Soft  Shell Crab breeding farm in Kyauk Tan Township. There are about 25 breeding ponds and it produces about 200 tons of soft shell crabs annually.

During the inspection, the Deputy Minister viewed the distribution of soft shell crab to the hotels and restaurants, and production of Amino organic fertilizer from the crab waste, and instructed the officials to ensure promoting investment and quality of the products.

Later, the Deputy Minister proceeded to Thahtaykone and Nyaung Thone Pin Villages where he observed the dairy cows and poultry farms. He instructed the farmers to prioritize for the environmental cleanliness and to be free from infectious diseases in the worksites. He also stressed to need to ensure local food sufficiency, boosting export, vaccination and disease prevention measures.
