The Chief Minister of Kayah State, U Zaw Myo Tin, and officials took an inspection tour to the BiluchaungNo. 2 Hydropower Plant (Lawpita) in Loikaw Township on 30th September. During the inspection tour, the In-Charge of the Power Plant explained that water levels had risen at Biluchaung, leading to flooding in some areas and water entering the plant through the water channels.
Following this, the Chief Minister and officials inspected the situation inside the plant, including the preventive measures taken, such as sandbags placed around the Switch Yard and within the plant compound, to prevent flooding. They also discussed plans to reconstruct the damaged embankment caused by the water erosion, improve water channels, and strengthen the sandbag barriers to prevent further flooding. The responsible departmental officials were instructed to coordinate efforts for quickly pumping out the water.
Next, they inspected the area between Plant No. 1 and Plant No. 2, where water levels had risen, causing flooding. They observed the ongoing construction of a new embankment to protect the Power plants from further damage. They also examined the repair work on the old embankment and discussed how to rebuild the damaged earthen dam with a new structure and straighten the water channel for smoother water flow back into the Biluchaung.
They then visited the Biluchaung No. 1 Hydropower Plant (Lawpita), where the In-Charge of the Power Plantbriefed them on the plant's operational status. The Chief Minister and officials toured the plant facilities.
Finally, the Chief Minister instructed the responsible personnel to take necessary preventive measures to ensure the plant could continue normal operations, prevent future flooding in and around the plant, and ensure the safety of the staff members in their work environment.
