Inspection of airport upgrading: PM inspected Kengtung Airport upgrading works

The Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing accompanied by Council Joint-Secretary Lt. Gen. Ye Win Oo, Council members, Union Ministers, senior ministry officers from the office of commander in Chief and officials inspected the status of upgrading Kengtung Airport in Kenttung Township of Shan State (East) and the construction of a replica palace of Kengtung Haw Nan in the afternoon on Thursday.

First, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister and entourage arrived at Kengtung was warmly welcome by the Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Zaw Aye, Commander of Triangle Command Maj-Gen Ni Lin Aung and departmental officials.

At the Airport briefing hall, Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San, Quartermaster General Lt. Gen. Kyaw Swer Lin and the director of the Directorate of Military Engineering Brigadier General Zaw Naing Oo clarified the brief history of Kengtung Airport and airport facilities, runway, status of upgrading airport and the plans to be implemented.

In responding to the clarifications, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister said kengtung is the capital city city of Shan State (East) and situated at remote area, Kengtung region is blessed with the scenery environment and geographical features. There are several tourists’ attraction places such as Buddha Gargen in Pan Kwe Village, Lwe Mwe resort town and others.

At present, Jet Aircrafts are being used for the domestic flights to the remote areas and the airport should be upgraded to be able to land by the big aircrafts using in the country. In connection with the neighboring countries, it’s needed to carry out to be able to land by the direct flights from Laos, China and Thailand. This upgrading work is intended to facilitate the socio-economic development of the region and the local residents.

Next, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister and entourage inspected Kengtung Airport and implementing to upgrade runway and gave necessary instructions upon the reports of the responsible officials.

Then, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister and party inspected the status of completing construction of a replica palace of Kengtung Haw Nan adjoining Haw Nan Garden near Naungton Lake and Haw Nan Palace site and coordinated requirements submitted by the responsible officials.

Next, the Prime Minister inspected maintaining works of Naungton Lake and the director of the directorate of military engineering and a responsible person from the local battlefield engineering corps explained the work processes of Naungton Lake.

Upon the clarification, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister gave necessary instructions and inspected along circular path of the lake.
