Innovation Center: Yangon Innovation Center Officially Inaugurated

Yangon Region Government has developed Yangon Innovation Center since 2017 aiming for youth to provide them with job opportunities, and help them connect with technological companies.

On 17th of July, Yangon Innovation Center was officially inaugurated in a grand scale in Yangon with the presence of State Counselor Daw Aung San Su Kyi.

State Counselor highlighted that young people will actively participate in implementing the dreams for the country if they are supported properly and created positive guidance to them. This newly opened Yangon Innovation Center is an imitative step for Youth to develop technologies and innovation. She also added that many talented youths and entrepreneurs will emerge through this center and they will also contribute their efforts to the country.

Minister for Kayin Ethnic Affairs, Yangon Region Government, Naw Pan Thinzar Myo said “We have been strived for opening of this innovation center since 2 years ago. The main reason why we opened this center is that we need to build eco system including technologies and innovations for youths in our country as industrial revolution 4 is coming ahead. This center is the future of young people where they can perform and show their creative ideas and ability. So I would like young people to come here and observe and make their dreams come true.”

Yangon Innovation Center is the biggest entrepreneurs’ hub in Yangon and the operator seedstars also offers free programs such as Seedstars Academy and Investors Readiness Program for the startups.

Chief  Executive Officer, Yangon Innovation Center, Ravi said “At the Yangon Innovation Center what we try to do is to build startup eco-system and innovation eco-system for Yangon. So to do this, we connect a lot of partners and stakeholders such as investors, students and then business experts and university academic. And we also try to provide very good policies to help these startups succeed. At the Yangon Innovation Center, we have many services. We have co-working space for startups. So, any startups that want to do a business can come here and get a very good deal on a rate. Apart from that, we have a lot of other free programs operated by seedstars such as seedstars academy and also investors readiness program. So these types of programs will help these startups pick up very fast and also try our best to make sure that they get investment and support the mentorship.”     

In conjunction with the opening ceremony of Yangon Innovation Center, Technology and Innovation Exhibition is also taking place at the center by the lead of Yangon Region Young Entrepreneurs Association (YRYEA).

Rector, University of Information Technology, Dr. Saw Sanda Aye said “From our university, we display 2 projects of our students here at the exhibition.  One is hardware project is presenting IOT based Green House System and another one is software system that is the popular one in game industry among youths. Game software created by applying our university’s subject C Programming Language is also displayed here. It’s also a place where young people can learn new knowledge, exchange their ideas as well as implement and create together among young people.”

A total of 40 display booths from Universities, Entrepreneurs and startups are being displayed here at the 2-day Technology and Innovation Exhibition.
