Inle floating Thingyan festival was held for the 1st time since 2019 at the Inn Lay Lake of Nyaung Shwe Townships in Shan State (South) and it is one of the most famous destinations for the domestic and foreign travelers. During the period of COVID-19 pandemic, Inle Lake floating Thingyan festival could not be held and preparations are being undertaken to resume this water festival again in 2023, according to the Union of Myanmar Travel Association.
UMTA, Naung Naung Han said “Previously, the tourism industry was operated in Inle Region depending on the arrival of foreign and domestic visitors. At present, the industry cannot operated fully yet even after the end of COVID period and some hotels are still unable to operate fully and they have not been received enough visitors to fill all hotel rooms also.”
However, public interest on Inle region has been rising and hotel rooms’ reservation has increased. Hotels and restaurants are preparing to welcome the visitors, expecting the massive arrival of visitors.
The celebration of Inle floating Thingyan festival has been suspended for 3 years and it is only now being resumed. Inle floating Thingyan is a traditional floating water festival of the Inle region, which facilitates not only for the development of tourism sector but also for the improvement of local businesses. According to UMTA’s prediction, Inle will be a destination that can catch the visitor’s interest in 2023.
