Information Cooperation: GNLM & SPUTNIK Information Agency signed agreement

The Global New Light of Myanmar of the News and Periodical Enterprise of the Ministry of Information and the SPUTNIK Information Agency of Russia signed an agreement on information cooperation at the Horizon Lake View hotel in Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday.

At the event, Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn said that the diplomatic relations between Russia and Myanmar started on 18th February 1948 and now it has even passed the 75th Diamond Jubilee.

Myanmar-Russia relations have been a good tradition since founding and it is establishing a strategic multi-faceted relations for the interests of the two countries based on trust and mutually beneficial cooperation. He added that Myanmar-Russian relations strengthened more in the 1990s but in 2011, it gained significant momentum.

In 2021, the plans to boost trades and investments between the two countries could be adopted starting the SAC Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing’s visit to Russia.

The cooperation with a news agency that has an international standard and reputation will be a strength for Myanmar media professionals and it will have learning opportunity of news writing, editing and photography techniques and both sides will have the opportunity to study journalism skills each other.

In conclusion, the Union Minister made a wish that the parties who would sign the agreement based on Myanmar-Russia relations, can manage to achieve the aims of developing the information field, reporting the news on culture, humanity, sports, business and politics, better flow of information and understanding and having identity between the people of the two countries,  Russia-Myanmar relations to last forever and the friendship between the two countries and cooperation in the news and media sector to develop in the long term.

Later, Director for International Cooperation of SPUTNIK Information Agency Mr. Vasily Pushkov extended greetings. After that, the Managing Director of News and Periodical Enterprise, the Board of Director of the Global New Light of Myanmar and the SPUTNIK Information Agency Director for International Cooperation signed the agreement on information cooperation in presence of Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn and exchanged the documents.

The Union Minister and the Director for International Cooperation of the SPUTNIK Information Agency then exchanged commemorative gifts. After that, musicians of MRTV entertained with Myanmar and Russian songs. The Russian Director presented a flower basket to the musicians from MRTV and the Union Minister also presented honoraria.

The SPUTNIK Information Agency that signed agreement with the Global New Light of Myanmar was established by the Russia state-owned Rossiya Segodnya (Russia Today) News Agency on 10th November 2014 and the Headquarters is in Moscow.

Moreover, the regional branch offices are opened in Washington D.C., Cairo, Beijing, Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Montevideo and Rio de Janeiro. More than 66 million viewers visit the news agency's website per month.
