Indonesian President Prabowo set a two-month deadline for the communication and digital affairs ministry to conclude the drafting of a regulation expected to ensure greater safety for children on social media.
Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid said on Sunday that she and three other ministers have signed a letter and the team will start working on Monday.
The president’s order to immediately finalize child protection regulation is based on several issues, such as the fact of Indonesia as a country with the fourth most child pornography cases in the world. The rampant online gambling has also affected almost 100 thousand children.
The government expects the regulation will be able to provide more effective protection for Indonesian children in the challenging digital era.
