Indonesian authorities have seized more than seven thousand birds in Bali after intercepting an illegal shipment bound for the island. The shipment included protected species, such as the Sangihe white-eye and the Sangihe sunbird, both native to eastern Indonesia.

"This detention is a firm step to mitigate the risk of the entry and spread of quarantine animal disease pests in the Bali Island area," said the Head of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency.
