Indonesia has launched the world's first nationwide B50 biodiesel program, increasing the palm oil-based component in diesel fuel from 40% to 50%. Announced by President Prabowo Subianto, the policy aims to boost domestic palm oil consumption, enhance energy independence, and save an estimated 9.4 billion US dollar in foreign exchange.

The ambitious mandate drives crude palm oil usage for domestic biodiesel between 16.3 and 17 million metric tons annually. The Indonesian government expects to phase out diesel fuel imports entirely, support the domestic agricultural industry, and even pave the way for future B60 testing.
