Indonesia opened its carbon exchange to international markets, with 83% of trading volume driven by local listed companies and their subsidiaries. This success reflects the country’s commitment to COP29 goals, as Jakarta pledged to phase out coal by 2040.

. Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, Indonesian Environment Minister said "Through the launch of the international carbon trading, it is hoped that this will serve as a foundation for global climate action that turns ambition into action, aligning economic growth with environmental responsibility."

The move followed the September 2023 launch of the domestic exchange, aimed at advancing climate objectives and encouraging wider participation.
