Indonesia celebrates Balinese Hindu New Year's Eve with fire ceremony

Indonesia recently celebrated Balinese Hindu New Year’s Eve with a traditional fire ceremony as part of the festivities marking Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence.
The fire ceremony, known as a vibrant ritual that takes place on the evening before Nyepi, where large, demonic effigies made of bamboo and paper are paraded through the streets and then set on fire. This symbolizes the burning away of evil spirits and negative energy to prepare for the quiet and reflective day of Nyepi.
