A rescue operation was underway to recover nine workers trapped in a flooded coal mine in India’s northeastern Assam state, officials said on Tuesday.

Three people are feared dead after rescuers spotted bodies at the mine but were unable to reach them.

The Indian Army said divers, sappers, medical teams and support staff were deployed to assist in the rescue operation. It’s reported that 12 people were inside the mine when it flooded on Monday.
