With the lead of Embassy of India in Myanmar, Indian community in Myanmar celebrated the 73rd anniversary of Independence Day of India in Yangon on Thursday evening.
In India, Independence Day is annually celebrated on 15 August as a national holiday to commemorate the nation's independence from the United Kingdom in 1947, the day when the UK Parliament passed the Indian Independence Act 1947 transferring legislative sovereignty to the Indian Constituent Assembly.
This year Independence Day of India Celebration was opened by lighting lamp which is later followed by dance drama music Repertoire Union, Manipur led by Ms. Sobita Devi Sougaijam.
Ambassador, Embassy of India in Yangon, Myanmar, H.E. Saurabh Kumar said “To celebrate all this we brought while we were planning to get a dance group from India and there is no better dance form to bring to Myanmar than Manipur dance group. Manipur dance is famous for its chant, colors, style, rhythm and most importantly Manipur is a neighboring state of Myanmar. Manipur and Myanmar has long historical ties…The ties are very very deep.”
Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture, Thura U Aung Ko graced the celebration together with diplomats, scholars and representatives from international organizations, Indian community in Myanmar and many other people.
