Reconstruction work on Sri Lanka’s Northern Railway Line has officially commenced on Sunday, marking another phase of recovery efforts following the damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah.

The restoration project is being implemented with grant assistance from the Government of India, under a broader USD 450 million support package announced earlier by India’s External Affairs Minister in the aftermath of the cyclone. According to the Department of Railways, around USD 5 million has been allocated specifically for the reconstruction of the damaged railway infrastructure.
