India becomes world’s leading rice producer

India’s Agriculture Minister Chouhan announced that rice production crossed 150 million tonnes in 2025, making India the world’s largest producer and a top exporter.  

Speaking at the launch of 184 new crop varieties developed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Chouhan highlighted that India has also emerged as a top rice exporter. He underlined that the achievement reflects the strength of India’s agricultural innovation and resilience, with new varieties contributing to higher yields and global competitiveness.
