The Ministry of Industry have been implementing to produce good quality 80/2 yarn at No. 7 Textile Factory (Myittha).
The factory, using the domestic raw materials, will be beneficial for the fulfillment of domestic consumption, creating job opportunities for the locals, saving of spending foreign currency.
Win Aung, Ministry of Industry, General Manager (Heavy Industry- 3), said " Mainly, we modified our own cotton-spinning machine as much as we can and repaired the machine to produce 80/2 cotton yarn. Firstly, we conduct trial run to get the long staple cotton fiber by using local raw materials, but the result didn’t meet our goal. So, we imported raw materials from India to test again by mixing with local ones. This time, the result is good, and we get what we wanted. The length of the raw cotton is also important to produce 80/2 yarn. Now, we can produce the 80/2 cotton yarn like China and India. It needs around 17 steps to get 80/2 cotton yarn. Firstly, we have to produce 80/1 yarn and then twist the fiber thread to get the 80/2 yarn."
Plans are underway to install more machines at the factory, soas to produce mass production for import substitution.
