Immigration and Population: Union Minister makes inspection, attends meeting

Union Minister for Immigration and Population U Myint Kyaing together with concerned officials visited the Mandalay International Airport in Tada-U Township of Mandalay Region on Sunday and inspected the status of the immigration processes, equipment installation at the immigration counters, operations of international arrival counters, immigration server room and Visa on Arrival room.

And, the Union Minister instructed the staff to focus on speedy service of immigration operations, to always be on security alert and to continuously cooperate with the relevant departments at the airport and fulfilled the needs.

On the same day, the Union Minister in his capacity as Chairman of the Central Committee on Supervising Ground Census Enumeration attended a coordination meeting with members of the Committee on Supervising Ground Census Enumeration (Kachin State)at the meeting hall of the State Government Office in Myitkyina.

In his speech, the Union Minister said that for the accurate population data in Myanmar, working groups of door to door field enumeration worked for 20 days except public holidays from 9th to 31st January in 2023.

As for Kachin State, in the field enumeration till 26th June 2023,more than 330,000 household lists have been collected, meeting 79.21 percent of the target and more than 68,000 household lists still remain to be collected because of security conditions.

Also, he stressed that efforts have to be made to complete the data collection within the specified period. He also clarified that it is necessary to pay special emphasis on completion of the issuance of the household lists and national identification cards with the Kachin State Pan Khin Project Phase (2) within the specified period.

Only when all these processes are completed within the specified period, an accurate voter list can be compiled based on accurate population data, then, a free and fair multi-party democratic general election can be held and all those entitled to vote are enabled to vote.

A trial enumeration at various regions and states will be carried out starting from 1st October 2023 to get the accurate data of population and household list on nationwide scale for 2024.

Also, the implementation of the e-ID system, the collection of biographic and biometric data of individuals are also being carried out in regions and states and then, he urged all to cooperate for the success of all these procedures.

Also, the members of the Committee on Supervising Ground Census Enumeration reported concerted effort for the work completion within the specified period, plans to be implemented and requirements. And, the Union Minister coordinated the needs based on the reports.
