Illegal trade: Timbers, industrial materials, vehicles seized

An effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law supervised by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee.

A Mitsubishi Fuso bus heading to Chinshwehaw from Mandalay, carrying 1,000 kilogrammes of suspected fossil wood at the 16th-Mile Kyaukchaw checkpoint in Mandalay Region on 21 July, five kinds of things including 2,560 kilogrammes of MDF Board that were smuggled and piled up by the side of the road over Sinphyu checkpoint in Muse Township, a Toyota Hiace travelling from Myawady to Kyondoe (), carrying 1,350 pairs of Panda blue foam slippers and two kinds of goods including 40 Vee rubber motorcycle tyres with tubes at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) combined checkpoint on 21 July, an on-duty team 5,400 boxes of Lactasoy soy milk from a Mitsubishi Fuso bus heading to Mandalay from Mawlamyine at the Mayanchaung permanent checkpoint on 21 July, a total of 1.763 tonnes of illegal teak, 0.470 tonne of hardwood and 2.306 tonnes of other timbers in Toungoo and Pyay districts on 22 July were impounded.

As a result, a total of eight arrests were made on 21 and 22 July, with an estimated value of over 96.073 million Kyats, as reported by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee.
