Illegal trade :Timbers, foodstuffs, vehicles confiscated

An effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law supervised by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee.

The combined team seized a total of 4.908 tonnes of illegal hardwoods, 0.626 tonne of other timbers in Toungoo district on 7 October, 7.682 tonnes of illegal teaks and 1.068 tonnes of illegal other timbers in Bago and Toungoo districts on 8 October and an unregistered Mazda Bongo and an unregistered Nissan Vanette in Bago township on 8 October.

On 8 October, the Customs on-duty teams impounded a Nissan Diesel truck and a Htila truck, parked at a warehouse and a bus station in Mandalay, carrying eight kinds of goods including 31,200 bottles of Justus beer and 16,000 boxes of Esse cigarettes and three unregistered Honda Fit, an unregistered Toyota Crown and an unregistered MG-5 vehicle on the outskirt of Namti.

The action was taken under the Export and Import Law. As a result, a total of 19 arrests were made on 7 and 8 October, with an estimated value of 889.681 million Kyats as reported by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee.
