Illegal trade: Timber, consumer goods, foodstuffs, vehicles seized

An effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law supervised by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee.

On 11 January, an on-duty team under the supervision of the Customs Department captured 60 rolls of textile and construction materials that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID) at the Mayanchaung permanent checkpoint in Mon State from two vehicles with a trailer heading to Yangon from Myawady.

Similarly, a combined team under the management of the Shan State Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force seized foodstuffs without official documents from a Mitsubishi Fuso car near the 121/6 Milepost on Tachilek-Kengtung-Taunggyi-Meiktila highway.

On 12 January, officials nabbed various bags, clothes and cosmetics that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID) from a Hino Profia car at the 16th-Mile Kyaukchaw checkpoint. An unregistered Zongshen cyclone motorbike was seized in Ye-U Township.

A total of 2.52 tonnes of illegal timber was seized in Lewe Township. A total of 41.43 tonnes of illegal timbers was captured in Bago, Toungoo, Nyaunglebin and Thayawady districts. Therefore, 17 arrests approximately 297.394 million Kyats were made on 11 and 12 January, according to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee.
