Illegal Trade: Illegal goods, timbers, vehicles seized

Supervised by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, action is being taken under the law against illicit trading across the nation.

On 18 June, a Nissan diesel truck travelling from Myawady to Mawlamyine, carrying two kinds of goods including 1,700 jerrycans of Star Oil brand vegetable oil, near Kyungon village in Kyaikmaraw Township, a ToyoAce light truck carrying 690 gallons of illegal premium diesel at Yadanabon bridge (Mandalay) combined checkpoint and a Howo tractor head with a trailer carrying 644 gallons of illegal premium diesel at the Shwegyin checkpoint were impounded.

During inspections on 18th and 19th June, a Scania bus heading to Yangon from Kawthoung, carrying four kinds of goods including 432 bags of MSG from Thailand at the Nyaungkhashay x-ray station, illegal teak weighing 3.038 tonnes, illegal hardwoods weighing 1.182 tonnes and other illegal timbers weighing 0.63 tonne in Toungoo and Pyay districts were confiscated.

On 19th and 20th June, a Mitsubishi canter carrying 17,200 bottles of LipoVitan-D from Thailand on the outskirts of Kengtung township and an unregistered Honda Fit in Bahan Township were seized. Therefore, 14 arrests (estimated value of 370.9 million Kyats) were made on three consecutive days from 18 to 20 June, according to the committee.
