Illegal Trade Eradication: VSG addresses Committee’s meeting 2/2023

Chairman of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice Senior General Soe Win addressed the Committee’s meeting 2/2023 on Wednesday afternoon. In his address, the Vice Senior General said that illegal import from abroad has greatly hindered the growth of the MSME.

Local MSMEs will develop only if illegal trades are effectively prevented and legal actions need to be taken in accordance with the law. Illegal goods worth over 12 billion Kyats were confiscated in February 2023 which is more than the confiscated amount in February 2023. In carrying out inspections, the system and personnel must be used in a balanced manner.

In order to prevent and take action against illegal trade, all must study the good methods of other countries and use those that match the country's situation. The state needs to sell the seized goods in accordance with the procedure and get the tax revenue it deserves, the Vice Senior General added.

The meeting continued with report on implementation of the decisions made in the meeting 1/2023, the Steering Committee’s work processes, reading out the reports submitted to the meeting 2/2023 and discussions on illegal trade eradication. Also, resolutions (drafts) of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee’s Meeting 2/2023 were read and presented.
