Illegal trade: 596.5 million million Kyats worth illegal items seized

Supervised by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat illegal trade are being carried out effectively in accordance with the law.

Industrial materials were seized at the Asia World Port Terminal checkpoint on October 16, two types of consumer goods were confiscated from a Hino Profia Truck, at Mayanchaung permanent checkpointon 18 October, seizing three types of illegal consumer goodsfrom another Hino Profia Trucknear the Kengtung detour on 19 October, two unregistered vehiclesnear the Yadanabon combined checkpointon 20 October and 19.095 tonnes of illegal teak in Bago Region were confiscated by the relevant teams of Illegal Trade Eradication.

Overall, on 16, 18, and 20 October, a total of nine arrests were made, leading to the seizure of illegal items worth approximately 596.5 millionmillion Kyats. The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee has reported that illegal trade poses a major obstacle to the country’s economic development and significantly impacts the socio-economic sector. Consequently, the committee has stated its commitment to intensifying efforts against illegal trade.
