Hurricane bring historic floods to Orlando area

Local officials said Hurricane Ian brought historic levels of rain to the Orlando area Thursday, flooding streets and leaving some residents stranded.

While the area escaped much of the destruction of the Category 4 hurricane that slammed into southwest Florida--as it weakened to a tropical storm on its way inland--some areas received over a foot of rain. Rescues of stranded residents took place across the Orlando area, including in Kissimmee, where several nursing homes and a hospital were surrounded by water. In many areas, cars were submerged in parking lots and water seeped into businesses.
